Suzanne Straw is Deputy Head of the Centre for Evaluation and Consultancy at the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER). She has over 20 years’ experience of undertaking educational research and evaluation for government, charitable and private sector clients. Suzanne has skills in both qualitative and quantitative methods and expertise ranging from the evaluation of small-scale pilot projects to large-scale multi-stranded programmes. Suzanne leads NFER’s work on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and has completed a large body of research in this area. This includes a consultation on STEM for the Education and Training Foundation and a STEM Education Learning Report for BG Group. Suzanne also has an interest in post-16 education and training; careers information, advice and guidance; tackling pupil disadvantage; and teacher professional development.
The college-based and employer-based technical routes have been introduced in order to develop young people’s occupation-specific and transferable skills and meet the current productivity challenge this country faces.
