The college-based and employer-based technical routes have been introduced in order to develop young people’s occupation-specific and transferable skills and meet the current productivity challenge this country faces. Integral to this change is greater employer engagement in education in terms of, for example, apprenticeships, work placements and profound input into curriculum development and delivery. NFER will draw on their extensive portfolio of work in this area to highlight some of the key opportunities and challenges in the important and changing arena of skills development.
